Call for Nominations

The International Society for Disease Surveillance (ISDS) is soliciting nominations for membership on the National Syndromic Surveillance Community of Practice (NSSP CoP) Steering Committee (SC). The objective of the SC is to ensure that the NSSP CoP has the tools and support needed to advance the use and practice of syndromic surveillance and enables a peer-to-peer collaborative environment to foster and facilitate knowledge sharing and partnership. SC members leverage their expertise and engagement with the NSSP CoP to provide direction and recommendations for projects that benefit community engagement and collaboration. Nominees to the NSSP CoP SC should have the expertise and qualifications necessary to contribute to the accomplishments of the Committee's objectives.

Committee members will be selected to ensure that the following knowledge, skills and abilities are represented:

  • Development and operation of syndromic surveillance systems.
  • Experience using syndromic surveillance system, either from the BioSense Platform, or from other syndromic surveillance systems.
  • Cultivation and management of online communities of practice.
  • Development of training and/or educational materials for public health professionals.
  • Translation of research and technical innovations into public health practice.
  • Expertise in knowledge management.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
To learn more about the current 8 voting Steering Committee members, view their bios here. Steering Committee members serve a term of three years starting the first day of the month just following their appointment to the committee.

Committee Member Responsibilities

  • Regularly participate in monthly 90-minute conference calls.
  • Serve as either a SC Officer or a Liaison.
  • Participate in workgroups and other activities as required by the office/role the member holds on the Steering Committee.
  • Provide recommendations and priorities for community-driven activities.
  • Identify projects that will facilitate improved collaboration, data sharing, methods development and technical innovation in syndromic surveillance.
  • Actively engage with members of the SyS community.
  • Commit to spending 1-2 hours each week to Steering Committee business.

Nomination Submission

Nominations should be sent to Emilie Lamb ( by December 31, 2017 and should include:
  • nominee contact information,
  • CV, and
  • a brief statement of interest (250 words or less). 

Self-nominations are welcome.  Please confirm nominee interest in serving prior to submission.  Nominees will be evaluated and selected by current Steering Committee members and will be announced on January 31, 2018.
