Michael Coletta (CDC) provided an update on the upcoming Data Sharing Workshop, scheduled for April 30 - May 1, in Atlanta, GA. He also reviewed upcoming updates to the user experience of the My ESSENCE dashboard and the new site processing emails being sent to site administrators. Topic of the Month - Drownings & Submersion Events
Erin Swartz, Wisconsin Department of Human Services, reviewed work completed by the Preparedness Team during the flooding in August/ September 2018. The team used the nightly syndromic surveillance data to identify 297 possible flood-related injuries, with 58 of those cases confirmed, as the event progressed. Amanda Morse, Washington State Health Department, gave an overview of a recent search query around Drowning & Submersion Eventsthat was initiated through a partnership with the Environmental Health Group. The analysis showed an expected increase in the number of events identified during the warmer months, but Washington will be looking more into trends identified related to age, sex, outcomes, and event location.
